Floyd Lavern Cobb Jr.
Floyd Lavern Cobb Jr. was born in Lapeer County, Michigan, on June 11, 1923, the son of Floyd and Esther Huyser Cobb. The Cobb family moved to Avon Township when Floyd was a small boy and lived on Hamlin Road. He attended Rochester High School and graduated in the class of 1944.
In February 1943, Floyd entered the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 351st Infantry Regiment of the 88th Infantry Division and served in Italy. He was wounded in the hand by an artillery shell fragment and was awarded the Purple Heart. Floyd was released from military service in October 1945.
After the war, Floyd married and started a family. He pursued a career as a machine tool supervisor at Rochester Manufacturing, and retired from the company in 1988. He was active in the community, serving on the Avondale Board of Education and Rochester Zoning Board of Appeals. Floyd also served as a Boy Scout leader for over 25 years.
Floyd Lavern Cobb Jr. died at age 86 on December 25, 2009.
