Lawrence Russell “Ronnie” Myers

Lawrence Russell “Ronnie” Myers was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on September 24, 1923, the son of Lawrence and Lillian Sutherland Myers. Ronnie attended Rochester High School and graduated in the class of 1942. After high school, he was employed at National Twist Drill & Tool Company in Avon Township.

In December 1942, Ronnie enlisted in the U.S. Navy. After training as an electrician’s mate, he was stationed aboard the destroyer escort USS Jenks in January 1944. The Jenks operated in the Atlantic, screening convoys carrying troops and supplies from the United States to England, and also in the Mediterranean off the coast of North Africa. Ronnie was released from military service in November 1945.

After the war, Ronnie made his home in Rochester with his wife, Mary Jean, whom he had married in July 1945.

Lawrence Russell Myers died at age 49 on April 14, 1973, and was laid to rest in Mount Avon Cemetery.
