This lecture synopsis:
Join us to learn about the heroic efforts of Michigan’s Native communities to retain their homeland in the face of six coercive treaties. The federal government gave cash and goods for land, but used the threat of removal at the point of bayonets, along with alcohol to grease the deal. Native peoples soon learned that federal treaties rarely lived up to their promises.
