History Hounds Online Lectures: From Cadillac to Collectors: The Art of Oscar Peterson’s Fish Decoys

All programs are remote, via Zoom. RAHS members can register for the programs on the Historical Society of Michigan’s (HSM) website. On the registration form, please will select “A member of an HSM member organization” and enter Rochester-Avon Historical Society. HSM will automatically email you the Zoom link the day before each program.

Free admission is courtesy of our membership with the Historical Society of Michigan.

NOTE: Registration for each History Hounds® event closes 3 hours prior to the event time—9 a.m. ET for Tuesday midday lectures and 4 p.m. ET for Wednesday evening lectures. Registrations completed after those times will not be processed in time for live viewing of the event. All lecture times are scheduled in the Eastern time zone.

This lecture synopsis:

Discover the artistry of Oscar Peterson, Cadillac’s famous fish decoy carver, whose hand-carved spearing decoys are celebrated as both folk art and fishing tradition and even displayed in the Smithsonian Institution. This talk explores the carving lineage and cultural impact that continues to inspire present-day carvers and artists.
