Jack Warren McGorman

Jack Warren McGorman was born in Big Rapids, Michigan, on May 27, 1916, the son of John and Gladys Warren McGorman. Jack grew up in Ann Arbor, but came to Rochester as a young adult in search of a relationship with his father, who lived here. Before the war, Jack worked at Yellow Truck & Coach in Pontiac, Michigan. In 1940, he married a Rochester girl, Elsie Clark, and the couple made their home on First Street.

In August 1943, Jack entered the U.S. Navy and trained as a machinist’s mate. He was stationed aboard the destroyer USS Wren in May 1944. The Wren conducted patrol and escort work from Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands. Jack was discharged from military service in December 1945.

After the war, Jack worked as a carpenter, then as a shipping and receiving supervisor at Detroit Broach and Machine in Avon Township. He retired to Englewood, Florida, in 1972.

Jack Warren McGorman died at age 74 on March 24, 1991, and was laid to rest in Englewood, Florida.
