Marvin Elwood Foster

Marvin Elwood Foster was born in Union, West Virginia, on September 28, 1923, the son of George and Alma Dixon Foster. Marvin grew up in West Virginia, but by 1942, he was living on Emmons Street in the Brooklands area of Avon Township and working for the New York Central Railroad at the Rochester depot.

Marvin entered the U.S. Army and was assigned to Company B, 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division. On May 14, 1944, Marvin was killed in action by an artillery shell when his regiment was engaged in heavy fighting in the vicinity of Minturno, Italy.

Marvin Elwood Foster died at age 20 on May 14, 1944. His remains were returned to U.S. soil in 1948 and laid to rest at Culpeper National Cemetery in Virginia.
