Robert Lyle Aldrich
Robert Lyle Aldrich was born in Redford, Michigan, on August 16, 1917, the son of Guy and Bessie Piatt Aldrich. Robert grew up in Rochester and worked at Pontiac Motors before the war.
In September 1943, Robert entered the U.S. Navy. In June 1944, he was stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, operating in the Pacific Theater. The Intrepid participated in the invasions of Peleliu, Leyte, and Manila, and was hit by a kamikaze attack that killed 69 of the ship’s company. Robert was discharged from military service in November 1945.
After the war, Robert married, started a family, and worked as an insurance salesman.
Robert Lyle Aldrich died at age 40 on October 1, 1957, and was laid to rest at Mount Avon Cemetery.
