Arnold Clayton Palmateer
Arnold Clayton Palmateer was born in Cass City, Michigan, on May 14, 1913, the son of Frederick and Anna Wentworth Palmateer. The Palmateer family moved to Rochester when Arnold was a child and lived on East Third Street. Arnold attended Rochester High School and graduated in the class of 1933. After high school, Arnold worked at Yellow Truck & Coach in Pontiac.
In August 1943, Arnold entered the U.S. Army and was assigned to the 232nd Infantry Regiment at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. The 232nd shipped out to France in December 1944 and participated in the invasion of Germany and the liberation of the Dachau concentration camp. When the war ended, the regiment was part of the Allied occupation forces. Arnold was released from military duty in February 1946.
After the war, Arnold worked for National Twist Drill & Tool Company until retirement.
Arnold Clayton Palmateer died at age 77 on September 15, 1990, and was laid to rest in Mount Avon Cemetery.
