John Arthur Armstrong

John Arthur Armstrong was born in Birmingham, Michigan, on March 19, 1926, the son of John Armstrong Sr. and Helen Maria Armstrong.

John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in August 1943 and was trained as an electrician’s mate first class. He was stationed aboard the USS George F. Elliott, a transport ship that carried troops and supplies in the Pacific Theater in support of the invasions of Saipan, Leyte, and Luzon. John re-enlisted in the Navy and also served in the Korean conflict.

John retired in 1989 after ten years with Wheel Horse, a manufacturer of outdoor power equipment in South Bend, Indiana. John Arthur Armstrong passed away at age 76 on March 1, 2002, and was buried with military honors in South Bend, Indiana.
