Wilbur Hugh Wildfong

Wilbur Hugh Wildfong was born in Pigeon, Michigan, on September 11, 1920, the son of Eli and Ora Wilfong Wildfong. Wilbur married Betty Jane Stemen of Rochester in 1941. Before the war, he served three tours with the Civilian Conservation Corps.

In June 1944, Wilbur entered the U.S. Army. He was assigned to an infantry unit and served in Europe, participating in the Battle of the Bulge. Wilbur was wounded in action in France on January 8, 1945, and was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star medals. He was released from military service in December 1946.

After the war, Wilbur farmed and ran a small engine repair business in Curran, Michigan. He served as the Mitchell Township Clerk in Alcona County for 34 years and was very active in community organizations.

Wilbur Hugh Wildfong died at age 95 on October 19, 2015, and was laid to rest in Alcona County, Michigan.
