Roman Florian Hettwer

Roman Florian Hettwer was born in Calio, North Dakota, on April 20, 1922, the son of Mathias and Rose Huhne Hettwer. Roman grew up in North Dakota, and the Hettwer family moved to Rochester, Michigan, about 1941. Before the war, Roman was employed by Harry Littell in Rochester.

In October 1942, Roman enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He was assigned to the 302nd Army Air Forces Base Unit at Hunter Field, Georgia. On May 14, 1944, Roman drowned accidentally while swimming in Savannah, Georgia.

Roman Florian Hettwer died at age 22 on May 14, 1944, and was laid to rest in Mount Avon Cemetery.
