Robert Monroe “Bob” King
Robert Monroe “Bob” King was born in Pontiac, Michigan, on May 17, 1925, and was adopted by Annie C. King of Rochester, Michigan. Bob attended Rochester High School and graduated in the class of 1943.
In September 1943, Bob entered the U.S. Navy. He was stationed aboard the submarine tender USS Howard W. Gilmore. The Gilmore operated in the Pacific Theater, providing repairs and supplies to Allied submarines that were attacking Japanese shipping. Bob remained in the Navy and also served during the Korean War. He was discharged from duty in March 1952.
After the war, Bob married, started a family, and began a career as a model maker for General Motors, retiring in 1987.
Robert Monroe King died at age 79 on January 30, 2005, and was laid to rest in Mount Avon Cemetery.
