Hiram Pilcher Manning
Hiram Pilcher Manning was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on July 10, 1925, the son of Frank and Vernon Louise Willis Manning. The Manning family moved to Rochester when Hiram was a teenager and lived on Terry Street. He attended Rochester High School and graduated in the class of 1943.
In October 1943, Hiram entered the U.S. Army. He was trained as a mechanic and assigned to an infantry unit that was sent to the European Theater. He landed on Omaha Beach in the second wave of the D-Day invasion, and was wounded in France in August 1944. Hiram was released from military service in December 1945.
After the war, Hiram married and continued his education at the University of Michigan, graduating with his DDS degree from the U-M School of Dentistry. He established his dental practice in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in 1951.
Dr. Hiram Pilcher Manning died at age 61 on April 16, 1987.
