Herbert Earl Houghten

Herbert Earl Houghten was born in Rochester, Michigan, on June 6, 1919, the son of Lester and Blanche Weaver Houghten. Before the war, Herbert worked at Yellow Cab Company in Pontiac, Michigan.

In June 1944, Herbert entered the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 10th Armored Division and sent to the European Theater. Herbert was wounded in action in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was discharged from military service in December 1946.

In 1947, Herbert moved to St. Johns, Michigan, where he operated the Houghten Lumber Yard with his father, Lester. He retired from the lumber business in 1963 and began a second career as a real estate broker and residential developer.

Herbert Earl Houghten died at age 97 on March 7, 2017, and was laid to rest in St. Johns, Michigan.
