Jack Marshall Upton

Jack Marshall Upton was born in Highland Park, Michigan, on December 22, 1923, the son of Roy and Ruth Cole Upton. Jack grew up in Rochester, Michigan, where his father was one of the proprietors of Dillman & Upton Lumber Company. Jack attended Rochester High School and graduated with the class of 1941.

After high school, Jack attended Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, Tennessee, and Michigan State University. He was employed at National Twist Drill & Tool Company in Avon Township.

In March 1943, Jack entered the U.S. Army. He attended Engineer Officer Candidate School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, receiving a commission as a second lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in April 1945. He was sent overseas to the China-Burma-India Theater.

Jack was discharged from military duty in June 1946. After the war, he worked in the family lumber business. He was a member of the Rochester Fire Department and numerous other civic organizations. Jack and his wife eventually retired to Florida.

Jack Marshall Upton died at age 68 on August 2, 1992, and was laid to rest in Mount Avon Cemetery.
