Francis Edward Argus

Francis Edward Argus was born in Cadillac, Michigan, on November 9, 1907, the son of Edward and Catherine Horseman Argus. His family moved to Avon Township when Francis was a teenager and lived on Crooks Road. Before the war, Francis was employed at Yellow Truck & Coach in Pontiac.

In April 1941, Francis entered the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 135th Medical Regiment, based in Australia. The 135th supported units involved in the campaign for New Guinea and the Solomon Islands, and Francis participated in three major battles. On December 17, 1944, he was wounded in the leg in the battle for Arawe off the south coast of New Britain. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Francis was discharged from military service in August 1945. After the war, he worked as a road construction contractor.

Francis Edward Argus died at the age of 70 on February 4, 1978, and was laid to rest in Mount Avon Cemetery.
