Ora Charlotte St. John

Ora Charlotte St. John was born in Rochester, Michigan, on August 20, 1912, the daughter of Raymond and Hazel Martin St. John.  She graduated from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1936 and spent two years working at a veterans’ hospital in Dayton, Ohio.

In February 1943, Ora enlisted in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She trained at Percy Jones Army Hospital in Battle Creek and was then stationed in Ahvaz, Iran, for 20 months. She also served in Germany and France. Ora was released from military service in October 1946.

After the war, Ora married Clarence Lockwood and continued her career as a nurse in an auto factory.

Ora Charlotte St. John Lockwood died at age 78 on March 7, 1991, and was laid to rest in Union Corners Cemetery, Troy, Michigan.
