Thursday Evening Lecture: The Haven Sanitarium
May 7 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
On Thursday, May 7 beginning at 7 pm at the Rochester Hills
Public Library Multipurpose Room, RAHS President Tiffany Dziurman will present her continuing research on the Haven Sanitarium, a mental health facility that once stood along Walton Blvd. in Rochester Hills (then Avon Township) from 1932 to 1968. The Haven began as a private residence built by the Shinnick family in 1926-27. In 1932, the home was converted into a private drug and alcohol treatment facility and by 1934 expanded to include patients with a variety of mental illnesses. The Haven was one of the most respected hospitals of its time throughout the United States and around the world. The site is now the location of the Grosse Pines Subdivision.
This meeting is free and open to the public.
